Los Angeles (April 27, 2008) - National Volunteer Week is celebrated in the United States from April 27 to May 3. It was created in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish the week as an annual celebration of volunteering.

Every year since that time, each U.S. President along with governors, mayors and other elected officials, have signed proclamations promoting national volunteer week.

What National Volunteer Week Means to HPMC

This week is about engaging individuals in service. It's about meeting the challenges of society not as individuals but as members of a community with all of us working together.

It's also an opportunity to whet appetites for change through volunteerism and get people connected to volunteer service throughout the year.

Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center’s (HPMC) goal is to recruit volunteers who are willing to help us reach our Audacious Goal of being the most trusted hospital by 2012. Choosing to volunteer at HPMC volunteers will help us provide patients the care and service that is important to them.
