Hollywood
Presbyterian Medical
Center's Respiratory Care
department utilizes a special medical device called a pulse oximeter, which
measures a patient’s oxygen saturation level in the blood without the need for
a blood sample. The pulse oximeter constantly displays a patient’s heart rate
as well. In addition, the Respiratory Care department utilizes a
noninvasive CO monitor, called a NICO monitor, which displays various
respiratory parameters, but most importantly it displays the readiness of a
patient to be weaned off a mechanical ventilator without the need for an
invasive procedure. The Respiratory Care staff is multilingual and always available to provide
patient education and instruction on any of the services provided. The
Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center Respiratory Care department also sponsors
annual Respiratory Ventilator Symposiums educating medical professionals on
respiratory specific health care updates.
