Diseases and Conditions

The human spine is a complex structure and can be affected by a variety of conditions. The most common complaint by patients is neck or back pain, often caused by the wear and tear of osteoarthritis. Degenerative conditions can result in nerve irritation and cause neck, arm or leg pain. Pain can also be caused by spine fractures and in rare instances due to spinal cord tumors.  HPMC’s team of experts use state of the art diagnostic equipment to make a definitive diagnosis.  Then the team constructs a treatment plan for the patient that is tailored to his or her condition.  Conservative treatment using medicines and/or physical therapy is often effective in relieving pain. Sometimes, pain relieving spine injections are a good option before considering a more invasive surgical procedure. Generally, spinal surgery is reserved for the most severe cases.

Other conditions treated include:

  • Cervical disc herniation
  • Lumbar disc herniation
  • Spinal facet arthritis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Spine tumors
  • Thoracic disc herniation
  • Vertebral compression fractures

Whatever the cause for your condition, our comprehensive approach may offer you a solution. And, should surgery be required, our aim is to use the least invasive approach possible.

The spine surgeons at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center offer the following minimally invasive procedures:

  • Percutaneous cervical discectomy
  • Percutaneous interspinous spacer placement
  • Percutaneous lumbar discectomy
  • Percutaneous lumbar fusion
  • Percutaneous thoracic discectomy
  • Spinal tumor ablation
  • Vertebral body augmentation
